New Year Resolutions Part 2

My last blog post on New Year Resolutions was about work life balance and trying to achieve a healthier balance between work and personal lives in 2017.

Staying on a similar theme is a New Year Resolution focusing on personal development – whether this is training, development in the workplace or further education such as a diploma, degree or even a Masters. Continuous learning and development is a great investment in ourselves and can lead to further opportunities in the workplace.

Personally I am a big advocate for training and development in the workplace and really like to see when companies support their employees in their continuous development. It is also important for us all to take ownership of our own personal development and not place all of the responsibility for it on our employers.

I appreciate it can be challenging to get the time to focus on training and development and often the thought of emails building up or the backlog of work on your desk can act as a deterrent. Taking the time to prioritise development is vital, not only does it directly impact how you perform in your role, it is great for your confidence and also helping you further your career.

There are great resources available to find development options that could be of interest to you – if it is a management development course, the Irish Management Institute is a great option or if it is a certificate / degree or masters, there are options from the Irish colleges and universities as well as online options with many international colleges. Do not hesitate to get in touch with me if you need any support in figuring out what options are there for you.

I would love to know if you make any new year resolutions focusing on your personal development…let me know what you decide to do and how you are getting on.

Here is to a 2017 that is focused on personal development.
